To Save A Soul

Zuzu's son, Zazu, was flying over the Pride Lands. He had recently been given the title of Majordomo Assistant and was trying to get a grasp for the lay of the land. He flew near the entire border, from the great gorge to the waterhole. He glided gracefully near to the den and noticed King Ahadi and Queen Uru having a deep discussion with their eldest son, Prince Mufasa. He didn't notice their younger son, Prince Taka, anywhere near, which he found to be very odd. The young cub didn't often leave the safety of the pride. As the rest of the lioness' were out hunting and his mother was busy with her own official duties, the horn bill took it upon himself to find the missing Prince.

He went over the general area, flying along the most common paths through the kingdom. As he headed somewhat southward, he heard the cries of panic and fear. He sped towards the directions the screams came from. Zazu had found the prince, but his circumstances were not fortuitous. A clan of hyena's had the cub by his tail and were dragging him back to their den in the Elephant Graveyard.

Zazu immediately went into a frenzy. He flew rapidly back and forth trying to mentally figure out the best option. In the end, he knew he couldn't fight off the hyenas all on his own. He took of towards Pride Rock, flying as fast as his wings could possibly carry him. He dove down to where the three lions were conversing, coming in so fast that he crashed into the rock, gliding to the feet of Prince Mufasa, panting furiously.

The prince jumped back and nudged the bird with his paw.

"Zazu...Are you alright?"

Zazu shook his head as he tried to regain himself. He sat up and glanced quickly to Mufasa, then turned his attention to the King and Queen.

"Your Majesties, I apologize...I flew as fast as I could!"

Uru gave him a gentle smile and lowered herself to him.

"Slow down my little friend, I'm sure you've done fine, whatever the circumstance."

He shook his head furiously.

"No, no, no! You don't understand! It's Prince Taka. He was kidnapped...by hyenas!"

The King and Queens faces fell. Ahadi looked to Uru and his son.

"Stay here! I'm going for Taka."

With a growl he turned, leaping from stone to stone until his paws hit the Earth in a cloud of dust. Mufasa saw the worry on his mother's face and nuzzled her cheek tenderly.

"Don't worry, I won't let anything happen to either of them."

He gave her a half-hearted smiled and followed his father's lead. He tore at the ground, trying his hardest to catch up to King Ahadi. Ahdi turned when he heard Mufasa coming up from behind. His face was full of worry, more than anger.

"I told you to stay put...I don't want both of my sons in danger."

Mufasa huffed as he ran aside his father. 

"And I'm not letting you go alone. "

Ahadi let a small smile cross his face, before he looked to what lie ahead of them. The dark shadow that had loomed at their borders now came into full sight. Both of the males had crestfallen looks upon their faces as their paws pounded the dusty ground as they grew closer and closer. Tusks and other various bones were now beginning to take shape in the shadows, but one thing worried the King more than anything, and that was the silence. As they drew nearer, he had hoped he would hear Taka calling for help but as they reach the large skull that marked the border, nothing but silence. They stood side by side, looking for any sign, listening for any sound. Suddenly a call rang out from the depths of the graveyard.

"HELP!"

Ahadi leapt in to action. Mufasa took a deep breath, he was scared but his little brother need them both.

"Hold on Taka, we're coming..."

With that, Mufasa pushed off from the Earth and followed his father in to a battle that, little did they know, would change their lives and the Pride Lands forever.
